Patrick Ayre
Patrick Ayre has
worked in the field of child protection
and child welfare for over 30 years. He
was a social worker and manager of child
protection services for some 17years
before becoming a researcher and lecturer
at the
University of Luton,
now the
University of
Bedfordshire.
He has been
involved in research across a wide range
of child care services and his work has
been widely published. He is a regular
contributor to the magazine 'Community
Care', contributing to the Research into
Practice and Risk Factor streams. He has
considerable experience in conducting
enquiries and serious case reviews, and in
delivering training in the field of child
safeguarding. He is a member
of the Society of Expert Witnesses. In
2007, he was the social care expert
engaged by the Claimant's solicitors to
provide evidence regarding negligence and
breach of duty of care in the ground
breaking case of
Pierce
v Doncaster Metropolitan Borough Council.
Patrick works closely with a small group of associates who have
skills and expertise in areas of work
which complement his own. Some of these
have experience primarily in the world
of practice and service management,
others are distinguished academics and
